9 am-
Strap yourself in men! POWER is on the move again. Men from all over the USA are en route to San Antonio, Texas after missing last year (or was it the last two years, it seems like forever). Flying the blue skies over America puts me in a reflective mood. I believe that God is moving in the world. We are facing wars and rumors of wars, but we will put that all aside as we minister to the people on the border. We will be ambassadors for God this week!
I am flying on good old Southwest Airlines from Los Angeles, with a stop over in El Paso, then on to San Antonio. I am praying for a good and purposeful week with POWER, and also having fellowship with the other POWER men from all over the country as we minister up and down the Rio Grande River area.
11 pm update (in hotel, McAllen, Texas)- 38 men are now gathered together for the first week on the border. One unfortunately could not make the trip due to health issues. It is a smaller group (normally about 70 men are here). Doug Wible got us all assembled in the meeting room at the hotel, and after reciting our motto together (Acts 1:8), and a brief prayer by Scott Anderson, Doug led us in another prayer asking that we all ‘leave it all on the field’ this week. We have all been called from our various life’s challenges to this trip, but we need to focus on the ministries and people that we will come in contact with on the border. Of course with our Lord guiding us all the way.
Because of the smaller group, we all have multiple responsibilities. In addition to being the ‘journalist’ for the trip, I am also in charge of van #6; cleaning, checking fuel & oil levels, and charging the radios overnight, and getting the keys and radio back in the van every morning. Usually it is the rookies that are assigned this task, but there are no newbies this trip. Somehow when I was a rookie I lucked out and missed the van detail, so this will be a new experience for me. Well, I made sure that van #6 is ready for the first day tomorrow.
This will be my 8th trip, but there are 3 men with us who have been on 21 trips. We have a lot of experienced guys; but we all know that we need to lean on God to get us through. I can’t wait for the projects to begin!
