“I can do anything through Him that gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13
“I’m not scared at all. I feel kind of invincible.” -Jack Burton, Big Trouble in Little China
Still inspired from serving on a successful first work day, the men of POWER started this day with a feeling of accomplishment; ready to repeat the previous day’s success. For some, this feeling continued. For others, slight discouragement followed. However, as we learned, through it all, God was shown to be the invincible one.
During the joy tour, Dave Buncher visited a community center, which was full of older ladies. While readying himself to give his testimony, he suddenly realized that it didn’t fit the group he was speaking to. However, the Spirit came through and inspired him to speak about his aunt, an older woman of God with whom the audience could better connect with. Many more prayers for healing and hope were uttered for the other locals that were visited on the tour. No doubt, there was some degree of concern from the men of POWER. What more can I do for these poor and beleaguered people? Pray good sir, pray. Though we are not empowered to move mountains for them, the God we serve can.
Triumph continued at the Chavez home as the day’s work was completed. Soon, this family who was given so much will receive it back in full. Already, an opportunity arose for them when Scott Thon presented them with a gift of over 20 hand-made quilts. He personally delivered these with the hope that they will be used by the Chavez family to continue their ministry to the people of Acuna. This house was built not only as a blessing for the Chavez family, but also for anyone with whom they come into contact with. Again we saw God’s strength made manifest through our own.
Despite our feeling of success, there was one setback. This writer was sent to Mega Mission to finish the construction of pews for the over 500 people that will visit that church. We came ready to work only to find the task more difficult than we thought. Though we faced difficulties, God provided through his servant Bing Cheng, who helped solve the problem and get us into a workflow, which enabled us to complete the task. God uses all talents, types, and temperaments to complete His purpose. Building pews may seem trivial, but not to the ministers of Mega Mission, who can now focus on sharing the gospel rather than concerning themselves with their seating problem.
The rest of the day was left to travel to our next destination, near Reynosa, Mexico. It is easy to think that this is time wasted in frivolity. Indeed, it could be the case. However, many of the men I spoke with told me of the wonderful conversations they had, prayers shared, and spirits lifted during the long drive. POWER Mission may be about work and serving others to spread the gospel, but it is also about building relationships that lift up the spirits of the men of God. We were not meant to walk this life alone. POWER Ministry is determined to make sure that this will not be the case for us in this brotherhood.
Pray that the fruits of our labor will see many come to Christ.
